Kaneko (金火) - WIP

    You have been chosen by the gods to view this page, hidden away like a government official's dirty little secret.

    Basics

  • ‣ Half-oni, half-devil (and therefore mixed Japanese and "western" of unspecified descent). He is unaware of his devil heritage and truly believes, perhaps a little naively, that he is a regular oni who happens to be as magically gifted as some of the most powerful onmyouji known throughout history.
  • ‣ Born 18??-??-?? (Meiji ??). A native resident of the capital. Unlike a large amount of gokusotsu, he willingly joined Rokkaku's squad after proving his potential, rather than being scouted (similar to how Saitou was appointed to his position).
  • ‣ First-person pronoun of choice is 吾 (われ ware). Usually very formal and polite, at least while at work, and will use the copula であります (de arimasu) instead of です (desu). Is overall a very literary man.
  • ‣ Loves candles and gemstones. Regarding the latter, will go on long rants about how gemstones are vessels and not inherently magical items, and people praising the "power of gemstones" are almost always con artists for this reason.

    Name etymology
    ‣ 金 (かね kane) means metal, money, gold... Here it is used to refer to refined gold, specifically (e.g. gold leaf).
    ‣ 火 (こ ko) is simply fire, though the reading "ko" is quite obscure in comparison to "hi"/"ho"/"ka". An example of this reading in use would be 火鈴 (こリン korin), referring to the firebells in Zen Buddhist temples.
    ‣ The compound form does not have a specific meaning. The name Kaneko is usually spelled 金子.

    Powers (WIP)

    ‣ Capable of summoning familiars for a short time, but has a single "constant" familiar who is like a beloved pet to him.

    Devilcat (惡魔猫 Akumaneko)

    Kaneko's "main" familiar. As is true with most devils, his real name is unknown.
    He is an old devil, old enough that the only languages he speaks besides Devil's Cant and Japanese are liturgical languages. He is "retired", which is why he has let himself be tamed, in addition to being impressed by how much care Kaneko had put into making a custom paper doll to bind him to.
    He normally appears in the form of a black cat with a fluffy devil's tail, and usually looks sleepy unless he is actively in shikigami mode, provided the errand he has to run is one of magical nature. Those errands usually involve detecting impurities that only magic users can notice, in order to either chase out unwanted spirits or strengthen the integrity of the mansion's wards.
    Despite his fearsome powers, he is more than satisfied with his current predicament. He only speaks when no one but Kaneko (or another devil) is around.
